About the Journal

Svět literatury (World of Literature) is a peer-reviewed bi-annual scholarly journal. It was founded in 1991 and currently it is published by the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague. It is targeted at the Czech academia, with international outreach, the articles are in Czech with English abstract and keywords. The Editorial Board consists of eminent scholars of literature from both Czech and international academic institutions. The journal contents is structured into several sections: academic articles on literature and culture organized in thematic blocs, a section on “Overviews and Materials”, and “Reviews” of scholarly publications in the field of literary science. The journal also organizes interdisciplinary colloquia on various topics, the results of which are published in the section “Discussion”.

Since 2016, the journal Svět literatury has regularly published international special issues with articles in foreign languages, with contributions by many renowned international scholars.

Aims and Scopes

Svět literatury focuses on modern European and American literatures, overreaching into other cultural areas. It is based on interdisciplinary comparative approach, which overcomes the limitations of exclusively national approach to literatures. Its main aim is to foster the integration of the study of foreign literatures in the light of modern thought on literature and of the problems of contemporary world: to assimilate foreign literatures through original reflection, and to open the Czech cultural scene to European and international dimension. The editors of the World of Literature welcome suggestions for thematic issues and thematic blocks.

Since 2015, Svět literatury is an Open Access journal with online content freely available to the readers under the CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 license. Full articles are available on the internet to all readers immediately upon publication, and their further non-commercial use and distribution in any medium is permitted, provided the author and the journal are properly credited.

No fees are charged for the manuscript submission, processing, and publication.

Aside from being available through various databases journal Svět literatury is also permanently archived in Charles University Digital repository.
